Steps 1, 2 & 3
Our Process
Before
Schedule your pre-treatment appointments with us which includes:
- Initial Assessment
- The initial assessment will include a review of medical history, contraindications to treatment and clearing the individual for treatment. During the initial assessment, the individual will receive comprehensive information about EECP treatment and procedures and will complete a questionnaire.
- Orientation to procedures and equipment
- The orientation is designed to give an individual the chance to experience exactly what treatments will be like. There will be an orientation to the room, a full explanation of the treatment sessions, education about the treatment process, and a 15-minute trial of the EECP machine in operation. Any questions about the treatment will also be addressed at this time. Your provider will give you instructions about what to wear, but you do not otherwise need to prepare for the procedure. Follow your healthcare team’s instructions for medication and exercise.
During
A typical EECP session involves the following steps:
- Preparation: The patient is positioned comfortably on a treatment bed. Electrodes will be placed on the chest to monitor heart rhythm throughout the session.
- Cuff Placement: Inflatable cuffs are wrapped around the patient’s calves, thighs, and hips/buttocks. These cuffs are connected to the EECP machine.
- Inflation and Deflation: The cuffs inflate sequentially and deflate simultaneously in coordination with the patient’s heartbeat. During inflation, the cuffs compress the lower extremities, increasing blood flow back to the heart. This process is synchronised with the cardiac cycle to enhance coronary artery perfusion.
- Monitoring: Vital signs, including heart rate and blood pressure, are monitored closely to ensure safety and efficacy. Patients may also be asked about their comfort level and any symptoms experienced during the session.
- Relaxation: Patients are encouraged to relax during the session. Some may choose to take a nap.
- Duration: A typical EECP session lasts one hour. The number of sessions prescribed varies depending on the patient’s condition and treatment plan, but a full course of EECP therapy often consists of 35 sessions spread out over several weeks.
- Post-Session Assessment: After each session, you may be assessed for any immediate effects or changes in symptoms. You may also be given guidance on post-session care and encouraged to stay hydrated and engage in light physical activity.
After
